Ikea

We went to Ikea on Tuesday, we had first planned to go over a month ago, however Hamish, Christmas and work things put the trip back. We went to get a couple of wooden bookcases, we just wanted a couple of their 15 euro ones, I think they were called ‘Dork’ or something which gave us plenty to laugh at. It is worth taking the trip to Sevilla as there is little in the way of cheap furniture here. We also bought some blankets to hang up at the windows to stop the draft, although I did tape the windows shut earlier in the winter which helped.

Typically the only place we have found which sells cafetiers (coffee makers with the plunger) is Ikea – we thought about getting a spare one and didn’t. And, yes, we broke ours on Wednesday morning, so are now trying to make coffee in a jug and filtering it, which so far has just resulted in chewy coffee.

We missed the first two classes this term, once because the car wouldn’t start and the other because Ian had a migraine. However we were back on Wednesday and were revising the names of things in the house. Helpful, as we finally have a quote for the building work so we know which bits he is referring to – and so far it is in budget – hoorah. We still need to get quotes for the windows, but if that is too horrible we’ll just go with aluminum rather than wood. Ian is wedded to wood for the front, I am more ambivalent. We’ll see what the difference in cost is before deciding.

Hamish is still doing well, he is wagging his tail properly now (it just used to stick out to the right) and yesterday we noticed him playing properly with Henry, something we hadn’t seen him do before. He has had two fits, one lasted quite a long time, the other was quite short. We must remember that although he is getting better daily, he was very very poorly.

I´m STILL waiting to hear when my rubber stamping site is going to go live. They are waiting for my background check to clear – I know that can take months when they clear people for working in schools, I hope it won’t take that long – very frustrating.

We have solved the mystery of why Bob appears to be putting on weight, despite being on a diet and regular exercise. He was found on top of the fridge eating the cat food. He must have jumped from surface to surface like the squirrel in that advert that used to be on the telly years ago. This also explains why the cats appeared to be finishing their food so quickly.

I’ve got a new website – it is the first of the ‘Make For’ series. Make For Baby is a directory of all the projects I can find on the Internet for things to make for babies, so knitting patterns, sewing projects, how to make christening cards etc. There’s a lot of interesting projects and tutorials published on the Internet, so pulling them all together into a searchable database to help people to find interesting things to do will be useful. The next one will be Make for Weddings. The money will come from advertising – hopefully.
