and I think that every mother reading this will have a certain amount of empathy for the poor buns, given that last night she and Muffin were ‘playing’ together, at a point where she was 5 days overdue. To put this into perspective, 5 days overdue on a 30 day gestation is, um 1/6th, so the human equivelent is 1/6th of 9 months which is oooh, around er 15 days?? So poor Crumpet was subjected to Muffins advances at the equivelent of 9 and a half months pregnant. No wonder she looked at me slightly agrieved.
Well quite a lot agrieved really.
Muffin looked happy though…
However I was not to know. My books are very clear on 30 days. This morning I saw blood on her nose and thought that she had been injured, managed to drag her from the hutch, just thought to check her bedroom in case there was anything sharp in there that might have hurt her, only to see two largeish jelly beans.
Tonight had a look and she had covered them in the nest and we didn’t want to disturnb them. There was movement in there though. Probably two babies? 14 days before their eyes open, very differnt to chicks who hatch eyes open and ready to peck.
So, we’ll see what happens over the next couple of days. I must admit, two jellie beans hold a lot less appeal than ducklngs!
