More Vet Visits

Sadly, we had our little cat, Missie, put to sleep yesterday. We’ve been back to the vet with her about the lump on her nose, and it transpires she has feline leucemia, and it was going to be too much to treat her for the lump on the nose while also treating her for the leucemia, which was in a grave state. It’s likely it was all connected. The vet said she had only a couple of days to live as she was, and they could try some things, but given the lump on her nose, which is difficult to treat anyway, the outcome didn’t look very good. So we decided to have her put to sleep rather than have treatment which probably wasn’t going to work.

She was young, less than three years, and the worrying thing is feline leucemia is contagious, so we need to watch the others.

We’ve also been back with Pixie about her fur loss. It appears that her fur isn’t actually falling out, it just pulls out really easily. When you pull her fur, lumps come out without any resistance. I try not to pull her fur, but every time she goes to the vet they try it, and she has less and less left. They are quite flummoxed as she doesn’t show any symptoms of any of the things that can cause this. They want to do a biopsy on her skin to see if they can see the problem, but want to leave it for a few weeks and see how things develop.

So I don’t think it was the Julius harness we have that caused this – although she’s stopped wearing it as I think it would rub on her bald skin.

We can go months without a visit to the vet – and then it can appear as our second home for a while!

Which reminded me that Ian and I were speaking about Sam, and we can’t remember the last time he had a seizure – but must be over two years ago. I know seizures can start in some older dogs – so we’re wondering if the reverse is true. I do remember the last lot of seizures he had were pretty tough on him, and we’d gone to the vet with the intention of having him put to sleep – and then they just stopped.
