Sunday the fire appeared to have died down, however at about 3.00 it was really smokey again and we didn’t know what was going on. It was so smokey that Mike was thinking about having to move his horses again (who had only come back at lunchtime). Our eyes were stinging this time and throats were getting sore. We went up the lane so we could take a look at what was happening and took the picture above to send to the land agents. When we came back we rang them to see what was going on and they were breaking up some of the debris and the wind was picking it up again. We expressed our disappointment that the landowners and agents had not be in touch and Ian said he felt someone should come out to see us. Luckily for them (although not so lucky for the poor chap whose holiday ended by havign to appease 400 near evacuated villagers!), one of their people was on holiday walking Hadrians Wall and poor chap had to come out to reassure the villagers that this would not happen again. However they have agreed to do some tree planting for us – screening the sewerage plant.
We have had journalists around, and Ian has had his picture taken looking destressed by a horse. There were some strange stories in the news – no one was evacuated as far as we know. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/4646057.stm

On a completely different subject – another funny thing happened this morning. We have a single chick in a cat box, and I fed and watered it this mornign and when Ian left for work there was a chick outside the house. It looked like the little single one, but didn’t think it could be so went to see whether the cat box was open – and in the box sat a big chicken with the door shut behind it. Now how did that happen….? Big chicken got turfed oput and little chick got put back in again. Strange…
