New Blog Home

We’ve moved! Well, at least the blog has.

The reason why we moved the blog is because I got an email from Google who own the blogger platform we were using, telling us that they had deleted our ‘goodbye Sam’ post because it contravened their terms and conditions – and if we did it again – they’d delete the blog.

Well, that sent me into a panic because I couldn’t see what we could have possibly done wrong – and this was quite strong action from Google, we’d perhaps have expected them to have given a warning, or even to have put the post into draft for us to review – so a flat deletion was of concern – particularly as there was absolutely nothing wrong with this post.

So Ian copied everything across to our new blog and copied all the image across at the full size, where possible to our new home, which is on my website and safe from Google deletions.

Then, about two hours later, I got another message from Google, saying they’d made a mistake and they’d reinstated the post. Only for me to find they hadn’t reinstated it and it’s still deleted – and I have no course of comeback – this is all done automatically and there’s nothing I can do about it.

So we continued with the move to the new blog home anyway, as I would have hated to find a message saying they’d deleted the whole blog!

It reminded me a bit of a comedy program that used to be on Radio 4. I think it was called biggipedia, and it was a audio pastiche of wikipedia. It was very funny and very well done. I remember one episode where there was a section that went like this:

Bigipedia finds there isn’t enough room on your hard drive – scanning your hard drive now for unwanted files – deleting unwanted files named ‘wedding photos’, ‘baby photos’….

And that was a little how we felt about Google and our blog!

I was very sad that it was our goodbye Sam post that they deleted and not some whittering about asparagus picking. But at least now we have full control 🙂
