The Best Bench in the World

This is the best bench in the world – we know that because it says so on the bench (more or less).

We had promised that we would visit the best bench in the world because when we were looking at houses, we would often see some saying they were near ‘el mejor banco del mundo’, and I just assumed that we were translating it incorrectly. But it transpires that the best bench in the world is in Galicia and just the other side of pooping nativity scene town.

Of course, several places lay claim to being the best bench in the world, and it’s a title that I imagine is hotly contested – but we choose to believe it’s this one.

The story behind it is someone entered a photo of the bench into a international photography competition and won, he titled the photo ‘best bench in the world’ and it became an instant hit! So much so, there is now a bus stop near by, with parking facilities etc.

It certainly is very impressive – but goodness me it was windy! It was so windy it almost didn’t feel safe – and I think baggy clothes would have caught the wind like a gust catching an umbrella.

The bench was also quite close to the cliff edges. Well, very close!

If you look carefully you’ll see Ian is holding onto the bench tightly and I am frozen to the ground!

Here we are sat on the bench – holding on very very tightly!

Our plan had been for a picnic, but that was just impossible so we stopped on the way back. I guess if we’d thought about it, standing on top of a high cliff edge with nothing between us and the Atlantic was likely to be windy!

I imagine during the summer it’s a bit crowded. We were there on a weekday in February and there were people there before and after we took our turn sitting on the bench! Who’d have thought a bench would be such an attraction!
