Gardening Part 2

Ian has been working really hard on our Huerta – which included piercing the waterpipe which runs under the garden – oops! But on the positive side, we now know we have an outside waterpipe with a working tap by the ‘laundry room’.

Here’s a couple of videos showing Ian using the draw hoe (as we now know it is called) to break up the top of the soil. He then uses the fork to dig out the roots. We’ve decided that the really nasty roots are from ferns, not the brambles we’d originally thought.

and here’s a video of the rest of the front garden (to the right of the house as you look at it). At the end that’s the pile of roots that Ian has taken from the garden – and it’s a lot bigger than that now!

The wooden ladder came from the undercover bit of the house. Ian had to cut it in two to get it out – as it was pretty rotten that wasn’t a problem, but we might now use it to grow things up.

Village Laundry

Just up the hill is what would have been the village laundry. We saw that there was a carving in it – not sure what it says…

On the same walk, we had this view over towards San Cibrao. This is the trading estate – which is pretty well placed for the sea. A new factory is opening there making skin care products which are made from seaweed – or at least using seaweed as an ingredient. Looking foward to learning more about it!
