The Day The Normans Came to Town

There was a Norman fiesta in Foz last weekend which we went to. As with all fiestas, it was another opportunity for people to dress up – in Norman or not-quite-so-Norman costumes.

It was quite fun as they came ashore, but not quite certain that the outboard motors were truly authentic. Nor, perhaps, was the fact the wind was offshore, so if they had been coming in by sail, they would have been going backwards!

However, this apparently was based on a true story as the Normans really did come here – unlike the Vikings which was more ‘if they had come to Galicia, this is where they would have landed’.

Unfortunately, just as the Normans came ashore – the heavens opened and it rained! However, I believe part of the story was that when the Normans came, there was rain and fog so they couldn’t be seen until too late – so in that case it was quite authentic!
