From the Huerta (and Wood) to the Table

We’re still enjoying food from our huerta – while a lot of it is coming to an end now, I can see the peppers and cherry tomatoes are still flowering, so I wonder if that means that more will come through. I do remember last year seeing peppers on plant in December, so maybe they will continue fruiting. Our courgettes stopped for a break and are coming back again, but a couple of plants died, so if they do continue, we’re not going to have the mountain we’d had earlier.

Next year we will definitely a/ remember what we planted and b/ label what we’ve planted, as we have a number of unidentified green leafy things.

It is sweet chestnut time of year and one of the people who visits to tend his huerta gave us a bag of chestnuts – which we used in the pate type thing in the photo at the top of the page. He is also going to show us the best place to collect chestnuts, so they could be on the menu as a regular thing for a while!
