Free Electricity :)

So much for the sun shining on the righteous – again we had another wet Samana Santa. Easter always appears to be wet, which is a shame when there’s a several hundred year old saint statue to be carted round the towns.

This year’s weather was caused by a storm that got ‘stuck’ and kept circling. It was something to do with the wind direction. It became quite a big thing, with a comedian making a sketch about how everyone had to blow at a certtain time to try to reverse the wind – and his sketch got millions of views and likes.

However, there was an upside to this. A lot of energy in galicia comes from renewable resources, and after a storm at the weekend, there was a surplus of electricity, so for a few hours in the afternoon – the wholesale price of electricity was actually negative. I don’t think that will filter down to the end user – ie I don’t think they paid us to use electricity, but was free or super-low-cost for those hours.

Unfortunately, with our extremely low electric supply we wouldn’t see much of a benefit. We can’t run a kettle or microwave, so there wasn’t much we could do to take advantage of this!!

Red Sky In the Morning

Had I known there was going to be a sky like this this morning, it would have been nice to go over to the headland and see it in its full glory. There were a couple of fishing boats out there with their lights on, so they sparkled – they really must see some great sunrises!
