Storms!

We’ve had back to back storms last week with high winds and lots of waves! The beaches and coast paths were closed and even Burela port was closed one day, which questions the expression ‘any port in a storm’.

We sensibly stayed home on the most stormy days, so I don’t have any good storm pics – but I did take a couple of photos when the storm was coming to an end. We could see from the window the waves in the bay and they were certainly very splashy!

The house was actually quite sheltered, but the electricity was going on and off for a while.

We also lost a tile from the roof – well at least found one in the garden which must have come from the roof. And water came through where the roof is beginning to collapse on the barn side of the house, but I’m not sure if the collapse itself got worse. This is in the roof above where the floor/ceiling has collapsed, so I imagine that water’s been coming in for years and it’s been a steady decline.

We didn’t get any water come through the bathroom ceiling though, which hopefully means the repair Ian did has worked.

Unfortunately were haven’t been able to light our lovely new stove as we bought a tonne of firewood – only to find it is green, so we’ll have to wait till next year to burn it!

The big thing about the storms is how noisy it is! The combination of the sound of the waves echoing around the hills and the sound of the trees being blown really is very loud!
