We took Dumpling back to the vet as although she’s been in good spirits, we could see she was retaining fluid again – this is where her heart isn’t strong enough to clear fluid from her body. The last time it was a lot worse and she was coughing and not eating – and had become lethargic, however we knew what to look for this time. Dumpling was still being herself, sniffing round Ludvig’s cage on the offchance he’s dropped something nice, and taking herself up and downstairs, but we knew the fluid would get worse not better.
We didn’t know what the vet would say, as she’d already told us that Dumpling was coming to the end of her life and it was just time now, but she just upped the diuretics that Dumpling is taking then whipped out a needles and extracted some fluid from poor Dumpling’s body 😲 She took half a litre, which had accumulated around her stomach (not sure where exactly – the needle went under the skin, not right into her), which of course made Dumpling immediately feel better.
So we just continue to watch her. While she’s happy snoozing for most of the day and sniffing around for the rest of the day, things are ok.
