Our bird of paradise plant has flowered – and indeed, it does look like a spiky bird. It had got sort of entangled in nasturtiums which have over taken the garden – but when I managed to uncover it, it soon bounced back.
We do have a LOT of nasturtiums. I feel a little silly now for planting seeds when we first moved here – had I looked around, I would have seen that they grow wild.
But we do use them in cooking. We use the seed pods instead of capers (just pop them in vinegar), and the leaves are quite peppery and we use in salad.
Plus of course the flowers…
