We’ve noticed two things – one is there is a huge amount of places in Galicia with the same name. Something we found very confusing when looking at property as there would be 10s of villages with the same name and we had to make sure we were looking at the right one!
The other thing we noticed is that populations can only consist of a handful (or less) of houses. We’re living proof of that as we are Fontao, people the other end of the road are Rueta, I think there’s a Santa Maria in the middle, and the three houses are the top have another name again! That’s four place names for 20 or so houses!
This map shows pretty much why this is. Every ‘population’ is indicated with a dot regardless of size. So Madrid will be one dot and Fontao will be one dot. So what this map shows is the massive number of ‘populations’ in Galicia when compared to everywhere else. No wonder delivery drivers find it so challenging!
It would be interesting to see how Portugal looks – in the North I imagine pretty much the same as we’re seeing here!
