Roland died last night. We weren’t expecting it – but neither were we surprised. We had spoken about taking him to the vet to be put to sleep and were waiting for the sign. There’s often one thing we’ll look for which tells us that it’s time to say goodbye. With Roland, it would have been a case of him not asking for food. He didn’t get on great with the cat tree and therefore would ask for food rather than climb the cat tree. And he’s be quite vocal about it! So we had thought that when he stopped asking for food we’d know that this was his sign. However he was asking for food even to last night, and while he was very frail, we hadn’t quite reached the time to make the decision – but I think it would have been within the next day or so.
But saying that, I did say a special good night to him last night – so I think something was in my mind. And Ian found Roland had died over night. We’re quite glad that he died in his sleep as he would have found the vet stressful.
We don’t know how old Roland was – but he would have been at least 15 or so as he was a full grown adult when he came to us in the beginning of 2012.

He wasn’t a super friendly cat to people – he didn’t like being touched and would share a chair – but only if he was there first and he was comfy and refusing to move! However he was friendly with the other animals and he was very much Pirata’s friend.

And he didn’t mind snuggling with the others too!
