Not being that experienced in parrot moods, it was difficult to determine what Larry was upset about. We had hung a pine cone in his cage, and also changed his water container for a yellow one, so we wondered if he was upset about that. He could have been looking for attention, but it is difficult to see how we could give him any more attention as he really is in the heart of the house. I suppose he could have been asking to be shut away for a bit of peace and quiet – perhaps he misses the solitude of the outdoor kitchen!
We’ve been reading about how to train parrots. They are supposed to be pretty intelligent, so he ought to make noises that say different things. However high-pitched squawk, seems to be his favoured method for all sorts of communication at the moment! He does make a cute little squeak, so our plan is to talk to him when he makes that noise and ignore him when he squawks.
We also need to find what sort of food he likes. We’ve also read that he should like fruit, however he doesn’t seem to get quite as excited as he should.
Squawking aside, I think that we are both enjoying having a little feathered friend with us. It’s quite fun learning about how to look after him.
