And it’s still raining

and thundering/lightening. We’ve been good at unplugging the modem though to protect it from blowing again.

Duck with a bad leg still has a bad leg and we have another one now limping. I am sure that they cannot be suffering from foot rot or trench foot bought on by the damp, so it must be something else. We will have to speak to the vet. We wondered if it was mites of some description, however we can’t see any on them.

When Dad was here he noticed that a hen was sitting tight in her nesting box and sure enough a little cheeping on Sunday indicated why. Two little chicks, which she promptly took under the shed to look after. We grabbed her and the chicks yesterday and popped them into a box so the chicks don’t get trampled by the other hens or lost in the mayhem of feeding time.

We have now moved the medium quails outside so there are 16 of them in the stable. They seem to be quite happy running around together. There are three now upstairs, plus daft quail and the guinea fowl. And the chicks which are getting on well. One of the three chicks that we put out recently is definately a cockeral, and he is going to be a big one by the looks of things. He is already the size of Simon (saying all that – and given our trend for mis-sexing animals he will now stop growing and start to lay eggs!)

The rabbits are getting bigger all the time – and fluffier. The babes have to be brushed regualry now as they are so fluffy. Luckily they are getting used to this. I guess soon we will have to take them away from Crumpet – which seems a shame but we don’t want unplanned or interbred patterings of little rabbit feet.

Been busy on the flat and house. Flat now is almost finished – just painting bathroom and getting lino down in the kitchen/bedroom. We have also painted the front room at Min House which is an immense improvement. It is plain white and this has lightened the room.
